Portfolios

A portfolio is a systematic means of documenting children's learning and development. They give a visual, detailed picture of children's efforts, progress and achievements. The information in these is then used for further planning, to practise and extend their skills in all areas of development.

Individual portfolios are kept for each child. The collected work samples may include

  • drawings, paintings, collages, weavings
  • writing from scribbles to names and words
  • a story dictated to a teacher and/or illustrated by the child
  • a book made by the child
  • photographs of the child's

- work and play activities
- physical development
- involvement in daily routines

  • written records of the child's interests and development

The portfolio will be presented to the parents at the end of the year but may be reviewed at any time
